Week of October 8

This week we started figurative language, and we wrapped up the book Hidden Figures.

Today (Wednesday) was a Mock Day,  but we'll get back on track tomorrow with similes and metaphors. We started with these basic elements of figurative language on Tuesday, but student homework did not reflect understanding, so we will go back and work through multiple examples together as a class. We will continue with figurative language for the next few weeks until we get through it all.

The next novel we will read will be Tuck Everlasting, so please make sure you start getting that ordered for your student. We will not be starting it until late November, but I will not be pushing the start date back due to lack of books in class. This is the edition I will be using in class, but if you have another version already, we will make it work!

Like last time, I am willing to order the book for your child if you send in payment of $8.59 ($7.99 plus tax, on Amazon). There are cheaper ways to procure this book--used from Half Price books, for example.

A few weeks ago I posted a classroom needs blog post. I was so appreciative of the donations that quickly poured in. Thank you for supporting my classroom! I will continue to update that post as needs arise. For now, I mostly need laminating sheets because I make dozens and dozens of task cards to review what we learn in class, and they last forever if I laminate them. I have a laminator, but I run through the sheets like crazy, so I am always accepting donations in that area.

Some students have been lazy about completing and turning in homework this school year. I will be sending emails to parents about one particularly important (and large) homework assignment that many of your students failed to complete or complete fully. Please check your emails for that correspondence, and if I don't have your email or phone number, I will be sending a letter home with your student.

As always, get in touch if you have any questions!
